If the people you live with are the grandparents, why are they throwing the fact that the helped in their faces. Sounds like these poor kids have no one they can stay with to help them out and show them the way. That is sad, I commend the older sibling. Where you were was tough, where you are sounds tough. I hope you both find your way.

Youre 21 and also afraid of being a good influence on your sister, sadly, youve both had a hell of a life. Perhaps, contacting Big Sisters/Big Brothers organization could provide you, and she a FEMALE mentor. Possibly experiencing some possitive influence in your live's, youll both learn new ways to cope with your past,and learn new techniques to put in motion for a happier, healthier life.

Id be hesitant about contacting Social Services/Human Resources as they may decide to pull your sister from her present situation, and place her in Foster Care. MANY of those homes are worse than what she is experiencing, and tend to shuffle kids around from home to home, causing more emotional problems. Granted there ARE some excellent ones, but finding the right placement is a prolonged process.
