Well I hope all of you SGF guys (and everyone else) know now about the pathetic stunt Kelly pulled by leaking misleading and false info about the Boise St. coach. Not liking MaCturi is one thing, but pulling a stunt like that to undermine the whole process is really, really sad.

Say, Bob Stein. What are you up to these days? Interested in the AD job at a certain Big Ten university currently in the hands of someone with a D-III mentality? ¶ That old customer service maxim -- "Under Promise and Over Deliver?" For the second time, Maturi has gotten the "over" and "under" parts reversed. ¶ Welcome to the "Five Year Plan -- Year 10."

First, football ins't life or death. Second, no one should talk about harming Maturi and I hope the Trib will follow up on that post and report it to the police. Third, I am very sad that Maturi hired such a no name coach. I do wish Coach Kill the best and hope he can turn it around. He might surprise me , totally, but he has so many things working against him. Who do you want to play for: Ohio State , Jim Tressel, and 110,000 fans OR Minnesota , Jerry Kill, and 25,000 fans. We will continue to attrack good but not great athletes and will always be towards the bottom of the Big Ten. I am done supporting Gopher Football.....not because I dislike Jerry Kill, but because I have watched this program for 40 years. I will not renew my season tickets but WILL wish the Gophers the very best. I will be going to the St. Thomas, St. John's games or watching football on TV. Thanks

It's hilarious when Gopher apologists get behind a new coach, the same way they got behind all the other failed coaches. What are the odds that Jerry Kill can win as many games as Mike Leach would have?

So did Tony Dungy weigh in on the final choice, as we were led to expect? If so, maybe he knows something we don't know. But the Kill hire sure doesn't stir my juices.

Based upon our "Tubby Smith" outcome, Sid must be right about one thing: no good coach in their right mind would want to come here. As Maturi gets the wool pulled over his eyes by these wanna be's, the good coaches are finding real jobs at real programs. I know you're turning out the lights over there, maybe you could find a buyer for that new stadium.

Gopher Boosters -- The same people who brought you the horrendous move to the Metrodome, 2 years of lippy quitter Lou Holtz and his .500 record, and 4 decades of losing football. I wish these men had the integrity to keep a low profile and keep their opinions to themselves given the pathetic failures they - the boosters - have produced for 40 years. The very fact that Stein and his booster cohorts are critical proves to me that this was a wonderful move by Maturi!

I would much rather have a good coach, then a good name. Stop with Mike Leach. Colorado, from his old confrence didn't touch him, Indiana didn't touch him. A good chunk of his players were happy to see him go at TT. Plus no school will hire him with a lawsuit pending for action he took at his last job. Ask Rich Rodriguez and Tim Brewster how a pass heavy offense works in the Big Ten. Jerry Kill took two programs that finished 1-10 and 2-10 the year before he got there and had them at 10 wins each by the third year. I've seen in person more then once how his teams play. They are tough, they are fundamentally sound, and they play with heart. He is a stand up guy and will represent the U of M very well.

mrknowitallDec. 6, 10 1:25 AM

shamany -- One of the great benefits of hiring Kill is that so many people are not going to renew their tickets (or so so they say). We will get a new crop of fans, ones who want to be there at the games. You mentioned Tressel -- Had you ever heard of him before OSU hired him? Did you know Schembechler, Hayes, Parseghian, Urban Meyer, and even Glen Mason (in case you are one of those who still loves him) came from the MAC?

Of course it all comes down to winning... if he wins the fans will be there and quickly forget all the negative comments. I wonder how much money had to do with this? If they were just looking for someone that had beat the Gophs previously there were many, many choices.
