These guys are goofballs and shouldn't be screwing around with this coaching search. Every move they've made from the web site to the star tribune ad to contacting schools to apologize for Maturi's conduct has been completely off base. If this group has issues with Maturi, the place to direct those concerns is the University President.

The search for a new Gopher football coach is already 'sabotaged' if Maturi is conducting it.

While I don't have an issue with your opinion, Mr. Kelly, I certainly don't agree with your tactics either. Instead of following your own words and contacting Mr. Maturi directly and inform him of your opinion, you choose to sabotage the entire process by contacting other schools and giving them your opinion. You don't gain respect without giving any. And on a side note (hopefully, this won't derail my entire speech before), but I believe it's ridiculous to create a website called savegopherfootball, when there hasn't been anything to save since 1968.

Hire a head football coach expert. Simply put, the 10,000 Hour Rule says no one gets to the top of their field unless they log at least 10,000 hours of practice. Minnesota needs to fire Joel Maturi and hire the former Texas Tech coach, Mike Leach. Joel Maturi showed us that he has risen to the level of his incompetence, as demostrated by the firing of Glen Mason and hiring a tight end coach, Brewster. At this point in his career, Joel Maturi will never be able to identify and hire the right coach because he has failed in this area before. It would be best for him to Hire Lou Holtz as the head of gopher football and hire Mike Leach as coach. Keep the current coaching staff who did a good job beating Illinios and Iowa. Although I could only afford one term at Minnesota, I hope we will spend the dollars in an expert way not like a dummy.

Maturi deserves all the criticism he is receiving. Anyone that would hire a clown like Brewster should have already been fired. Its unbelievable this guy is being empowered to hire the next coach. The U ought to be embarassed. No wonder they haven't won in 40 years.

The U of M sabotaged Gopher sports by hiring Maturi to begin with. He's not even a U of M graduate. There are many qualified U of M graduates who should have been hired as the AD at the U of M.

Maturi is incompetent. In college sports there are rules and ethics written and unwritten. While I might not completely agree with what Kelly is doing and how he is conducting such, Some kind of rebuke or even dismissal for Maturi is in order. If this is how he is conducting this Coach "search" he is going at it with a total disregard for some integrity in the process. It is sad. And with the changes going on at the U regarding the changeover in Presidents, it would be sad if Bruininks last act might have to be to deal with a termination and change at the AD position, but it would actually be the right thing to do from an ethical and performance standpoint.

I'm not excited about Maturi leading the process to hire a new coach but Kelly & Co. do not help matters by contacting other schools. Stay out of the search. Whether we like it or not (and most don't), Maturi is making the pick. Let's hope by some small miracle he gets us a proven D-1 winning head coach. Don't make matters worse by injecting yourselves directly in the process. Work through the proper channels like everyone else.
