A great story about a jazz legend. However, it's a shame the writer failed to comment on the Dakota's many failings as a concert venue. Sight lines are extremely poor from most angles and the constant foot traffic and conversations of patrons, waiters and waitresses during performances is distracting, rude and unnecessary. The Dakota could show some respect to its guests and performers by cutting off food and drink service 30 minutes before each performance.

Dakota is the best! Acoustics, food, and Lowell Pickett too. And that includes NYC.

I believe that my wife and I along with some friends were at Tyner's first Dakota gig. I recall it as a very nice time, the music and venue were fabulous. We were there with a Tyner relative, so were able to chat with him after the show. He could not have been more gracious.
