ANOTHER REASON TO HIRE HORTON AS A PROVISIONAL/PROBATIONARY COACH.. Not only does it give the new Prez and the new AD time to be a known quantity to prospective coaches who actually have their heads on straight, so we avoid the god-complexed flake coaches, it also gives the U time to follow a coach they want and avoid a buyout. If Horton doesn't get to a bowl and go 500 in the big 10/12, what's another year among 50? And if he does.. in his first real year? And, if you really want, you can still hire an even better coach when one becomes available and clear of a buyout - if a better one will come.

Maturi created this mess. He shouldn't be allowed to touch any decisions affecting the future beyond December 1. His selection of Tim Brewster showed incredible bad judgment (Brewster should have never accepted--he should have been cutting his teeth on a coordinator job somewhere). If Maturi wanted a recruiter he could have hired Vinny Cerrato and found a head coach with suitable experience--not Brewster. He can brag all he wants to about the other varsity teams at the U -- no doubt they're very good -- but it's football, men's basketball and hockey that bring in what Calvin Griffith used to call "the do-re-mi". How can any presently employed head coach feel good about dealing with such a ham handed outfit?

They get how MUCH $$$$ from the BIG TEN NETWORK?? And they need to take out a LOAN from Central Adm. so to pay the former Head Coaches off.Looks like its time for someone else to run the checkbook.

What happened to signing the big name coach? What happened to Belotti, Fulmer, & Leach? All three have no buyout and are proven big name unemployed coaches. To be honest, I would rather have Mason back than any of the names they mention in this article. If one of those guys gets the job, it will be a sad day for the gopher football program. How will bringing in Brady Hoke build any kind of excitement around this team? Maturi, as fans, we deserve better than this JV coaching search.

Leach has too much baggage with him - the U (never mind Maturi) want nothing to do with him - plus they (U) have an impression of him from the 2 weeks they spent in close proximity to him during the bowl game a few years ago. I have a better chance of becoming head coach at the U than Leach does.

If they would sell ice cold adult beverages at TCF Bank Stadium they would have plenty of cash for a contract buyout.

I'll give you some real 'baggage': It has been 43 years since Minnesota won even a share of a Big Ten title! THAT IS BAGGAGE. ------------ Leach is a proven, established winner, who has shown he can turn a losing program around. He's perfect for Minnesota.

The U had a maturing head coach in Brewster - granted he didn't get off to a very coordinated start by changing his offenses - but he said the Gophers would beat some quality teams and they did - Iowa and Illinois and he is more responsible for those victories than Horton. Horton is his offensive coordinator. Brewster can recruitbut we don't think Horton can or he wouldn't have lost 19 games in a row as a head coach. Minnesota pulled the plug too quickly on Brewster and now we don't know if we have the funds to hire someone we really want. What a mess and we have Bruinicks and Maturi to thank for that and all of the Gopher fans who lacked the patience to see things through and demanded that Brewster be fired. We are going to have to have patience and more patience for the next guy too. Let'x hope he can recruit and play defense!

How can you tell me that with a brand new sold out stadium, and $7 Mill in B10 TV cash that you have a money problem ? Something is terribly wrong here.
