3 job search lies that keep you unemployed

This may ruffle a few feathers, but your time is valuable, so I'll be blunt: If you've been struggling to find a job for more than 6 months, you may be doing the wrong things to get hired.

Of course it helps to get the right person and to know what you want. I got my last job by being the easiest person to hire - personally handing my resume to the human resources person who hadn't called me because he lost it and was more focused on his own future. An acquaintenance got hers by "checking in" every month with same contact for a position with a company she wanted. Another found an obscure conference in a field she wanted, traveled to it and introduced herself with an elevator speech. She made contacts and got hired.
