Houck...oh, please. You know as well as anyone else that Catholic priests are not the only clerics to wear such garb. Spare us your silliness.
...if he thinks only Catholics wear clerical collars. The mailing was criticizing a Protestant pastor. The only reason to assume it's anti-Catholic is if you want to play martyr to further an agenda.
An outraged repugulan... Man spare us the astroturf anger.
Why would the DFL attack Catholics because a protestant pastor was mum on health care? Plus, I know Dan Hall. He has never worn a collar. To think that the DFL didn't know that they were using Catholic imagery shows how the they are hopelessly out of touch with people of conservative faith.
Also, I see none of the news outlets have reported that Houck believes the DFL is attacking Archbishop Nienstedt because of the marriage DVD.
I've met with thousands of pastors over the last 5 years. Only one protestant wore a collar.
Well the Church's recent blessing of a benefactor distributing taped informercials advocating a state referendum to define marriage the Catholic way certainly has anti-democratic sentiment.
Meaning anti religion? A man in a black suit and clerical collar is a catholic.I know catholic can mean a protestant minister or it can also mean a roman catholic priest. I thought Christian attitude meant taking care of the poor and if a minister remained silent when laws are being passed to hurt them then it is appropriate.
Not sure if you're counting Episcopals.
Enter the political playing arena. They should have thicker skin and stop the phoney outrage about faith being attacked.
It's fair game: the local catholic church has no problem politicizing its so-called religious stances as part of the public policy debate - and they've done it in some very mean spirited ways. But if that's the game they want to play, they need to understand they do not get to control the terms of the debate.
