Spend a couple hundred dollars and build them a replacement platform with an old retired lightpole somewhere nearby!

This story reads like an avian soap opera. We'll miss the nest, though. We drive by it twice a day and my four year-old loves to look for the birds.

Edina did put up a nesting pole just a mile or so to the south of this one. It sits high above 169 & 494 on the northeast corner. There has been a nesting pair there for a few years. So Edina how about another pole for this pair?

Osprey nests are becoming more and more common as the birds increase their population in Minnesota, keep your eyes open, perhaps you'll find a new nest to keep tabs on close to home. I know of a few on high power poles / towers, always fun to catch a glimse of these wonderful birds!

What is the range or territory of the occupants of a given nest?

Is it necessary to replace the pole at all? Why not just build one adjacent to it, and leave the existing one in place? Is it a safety hazard somehow? If so, I totally get the need, but the article doesn't address this point. MNDOT has my highest respect by the way, especially after spending the weekend in LA!

A pole doesn't take up a lot of space, and if it helps keep our lives interesting in a fun way, then I'm all for the nest staying.
