All this bureauacracy. Division here, board there, pretty soon there is duplication everywhere. Money spent and money wasted. This is what we get when politicians run amok.
Obama said he wants "leaner government" thank god he came in time.
But is it usual to hold a grudge for this long, and to editorialize about it? Kinda strikes me as bush league, even though I know virtually nothing about either of the players involved. Perhaps Ms. Burcum would be better served by running for office herself and attempting to dismantle what she sees as uneccessary government encumberance from within.
Of you read the next peice, an actual member of this board offers an opposing view point. $185k is alot of money. In all reality that equates to a whopping $0.50 per resident per year to maintain this board, of which the 2 citizen seats get a huge payment of $35 per month. They also get 2 votes on property tax rates. Sad to say the writter forgot to mention that the City if MPLS generates more money from sales tax than the state pays out in total LGA. Which would lead some to believe that LGA is fully funded and hence fully dependant upon having a safe, clean city to lure in consumers from accross the state. Then without proper funding from the state, leaving MPLS residents to foot the bill for extra police to ensure a safe clean city, that will generate over $530 million a year in sales tax, which the city doesn't get to keep a penny of.
Almost every Democrat-controlled community in this country, with the exception of wealthy enclaves like Malibu or Beverly Hills, is a cesspool of crime and violence. Violence and murder in Republican areas is rare. Murder and violence in Democrat areas is an daily fact of life.
As stated in the editorial (it is not an article). With the current setup in MPLS they have a seperate borad for Parks where few others see the need. The Park board has it's own police force again few other cities have that duplicate service and EXTRA cost. Roll everything under the city council and kill the park police will save lots of money both in the short term as well as the long.
Been to the city lately? Obviously not. Too bad, you're missing out on a lot of fun!
So what if the City of Minneapolis generates more in sales tax than it gets in LGA? LGA is but a small part of the state budget. The sales tax pays for a lot of other state services. I would prefer they just cut LGA instead of raise taxes to keep it around. I don't know for sure, but I expect the city of Minneapolis spends more per capita than other cities around it.
Well MPLS spends roughly $3,888.88 per resident (thats 10 year old census data). I have looked a little bit in an attempt to find a break down but haven't really found anything.I found some data for STP but I am not sure if its correct, it says it spends $1,958 per resident, its budget wasnt as clear as the MPLS budget was and I was going off the wikipedia population.
The board of taxation and the park are redundant to the city council and offer no benefit to the city. No one disputes that. These boards have multi million dollar budgets of taxpayer's money to waste and hire numerous democrats to work. It's all about taking money from taxpayers and giving it to democrats.
