Nothing beats the atmosphere of college football from the colors, the pageantry, the band, the tailgaiting, the fight songs, etc... It doesn't matter what campus you are on or who's playing the college gameday atmosphere is euphoric. I know I am in the minority here but the Gopher football team is my favorite local sports team with a bullet, and for all of the same reasons mentioned in this article. p.s. The Gophers will be better than everyone thinks this year. Go Gophers! p.s. The Go

Brewster should learn the English language or learn to shut up. Rather than promising the world when he knows he cannot deliver, why not say "we're here to play as hard as we can every play, we've got a lot of talent and will be competitive every single play" That would go over a lot better than the insane and unfulfillable promises he makes.

I wont miss watching a Vikings or Twins game on TV, but its the Gophers that I wont miss in person. Regardless of what the experts are predicting I cannot wait for Saturdays at TCF. I attended a different college but definitely look forward to retiring 35 years from now an attending all the Gopher road games as well. Go Gophers. Enjoy. The. Season.

Hughes is right, there is nothing like college game day, especially, at a D-I campus. We attended five games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois when our daughter was completing her PhD in engineering there and enjoyed the game day atmosphere every time, including an evening game that was very cold. Like Minnesota, Illinois didn't have much of a team during those five years except for their Rose Bowl year (saw them beat Penn State that year) but their fans always came out in droves to tailgate and then head off to the game, proudly wearing their orange and blue. I really enjoyed being there a couple of years ago when the Gophers came into Memorial Stadium, took the lead from the beginning and beat the Illini in a nicely contested game. I saw the Illini get beat by Michigan State last year with kind of yet another Gopher like lackluster performance but before a full house never-the-less in the newly renovated and expanded Memorial Stadium. As Hughes said, there is just nothing like college football game day at the big schools no matter whether the local lads win or not. There is no enjoyment is hearing dumb bottom claims from new inexperienced and naive coaches about winning the conference or going to the Rose Bowl when they have no clue about what it takes to do that. For whatever reason, the Gophers have not been competitive with the good teams in the conference for a long time and probably won't be again for years to come. So, just accept that and enjoy the college game day atmosphere. I mean, who in the heck cares if the lads win enough games against East Overshoe Techs to qualify for yet another toilet bowl game anyway?

I, too, am a long-time partisan. However, what I'd like is knowing, as the game starts, that Minnesota CAN win this game. Not a certainty, not even a likelihood, but a chance. Basketball is like that. Sadly in football, I know that those sunny afternoons with the colors and the band are all there will be to enjoy when we face five conference opponents.

I predict a 5-7 season for this group, there's alot of talant but there all young, so they will take their lumps, but they will surprise at times, they'll win one they're not suppose too and lose one they're not suppose too.

Wow,was this a great story to read !!!!Mr. Hughes if only some of The Gopher fans could feel the way you do,but most of these people who write their comments aren't fans.Unlike you they like to beat up on the coaches and players.I'm betting Gophers win big Thursday night and will have a great season. Many people think this team isn't going to be good they will be shocked. This year The Gophers will be a very good football team.Weber will be outstanding and lead his team to a great season !!! Nope I am not drinking the cool aid
